Vaginal irritation and itching are the most common symptoms of vaginal infection including sexually transmitted diseases. But itching in and around vulvar areas can be due to various reasons such as the chemical irritants found in soaps, detergents, toilet paper, feminine hygiene and contraceptive products. Women may experience vaginal irritation and itching during menopausal transition as well due to fluctuations in estrogen levels causing vaginal wall to become thinner and drier leading to the same. If irritation and itching persists, you must visit your gynaecologist.
